Beogram 3000 Type 5901 – Left channel missing, brief sound on Stop

Hello everyone, I’m having an issue with my Beogram 3000 (Type 5901) + MMC4, connected to a Beomaster 2000 from Bang & Olufsen via the original DIN connector. When playing a record, I only get sound from the right speaker. The left channel is basically silent, apart from some occasional crackling noises. Interestingly, when I press Stop during playback, I can briefly hear the left channel for a fraction of a second when the arm moves up. I’ve already ruled out the amplifier (Beomaster 2000) for now as the cause. Other sources connected to the Beomaster via cinch play perfectly fine on both channels, so the power amp section seems healthy. For now, I’m also assuming the internal phono preamp of the Beomaster is not the issue. From what I’ve read so far, this behaviour could be related to the muting circuit in the Beogram. I opened the turntable and checked the muting switch. Mechanically, it seems fine and is not stuck. It moves smoothly when actuated. However, the contacts do look a bit oxidised or corroded (see pictures). At this point, I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. Should I focus on cleaning or servicing the muting switch first, or would it make sense to temporarily bypass it for testing? Are there any known weak points I should check next, such as the DIN cable, tonearm wiring, or typical solder joint failures on this model? Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
In my experience the symptoms you describe (especially the brief burst of sound when the arm cues) usually means the suspension on the MMC cartridge is shot. Might be time for a rebuild...
