Hi all,
Looking to see if it's possible to fix my parents Beosound 1, possibly has two separate problems.
Unit powers up and accepts the pin. I'm not familiar with this stuff so may not be a symptom but it feels sluggish to me to operate. Not zippy at all. Press a button, wait for it to respond etc.
Antenna operates ok. A miniscule pop is emitted from the speakers once radio is selected. Station can be tuned, volume increased etc using the unit or remote. There is no sound at all.
Selecting CD, the tray opens, insert a CD, closes, few seconds later the tray opens again. The CD does not spin nor does the lens appear to move.
This unit has been stood for years unused so for the CD at least mechanism may be seized? Mention here of a service menu to force the mechanism to move? How is this accessed? https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-1-cd-issue/
I've removed the PSU to inspect, the caps look ok but I'm happy to recap if it's a possible cause. Kind soul has listed the PSU caps here https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/4591.aspx
Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Beoworld! This is the second BeoSound 1 fault reported today, so it's great that people are trying to get this great bit of kit working! (I have three!)
Most of my BeoSound 1 experience is in the following and linked threads: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-1-faulty-cd-player/" target="_blank">https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-1-faulty-cd-player/">https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-1-faulty-cd-player/
We do have the service manual available on Beoworld for paying Silver/Gold members. You really need to look at this before you start messing around in the service manual.
Is the antenna connected in the connections underneath - maybe this could account for the lack of sound? You could also try connecting a source to the aux socket. Aux is selected by presing the track << and >> buttons together*.
* On the later 'Mk2' model (SW2.X), aux is selected by pressing the CD < and > buttons together - just wanted to add that for completeness!

Thanks for the info. From your write-up you were at least getting a spinning disc - I'm getting nothing. I've now stripped the CD unit down, give it a light clean and re-seated cables, ribbons etc. I haven't checked voltages yet but will do so next.
I've now found the service manuals and checked the schematics & test routines.
In the error log were 0601 & 0C03. Once cleared, they haven't returned. None of the CD tests seem to do anything - straight to END. Running TM71 gives FOUL then END.
I don't think a CD fault would prevent the radio & aux working and assuming I've got the pinout correct, aux doesn't work either. Nor do headphones so I suspect it might be the main board.
The arial is connected and appears sound. Pr1 must have historically have been set to Radio 2 - 89.3. Interesting when scanning for FM, it skips past known good frequencies - is it supposed to stop when it detects a strong signal? With a bit of faffing I got it to 98.9 - Radio 1 - and again nothing.
Thanks
