Hi Andy: Curious... did you do anything special to get the mech working? I have the same mech as you. After belt change, the transport doesn't function properly. Will FFWD in one direction but not the other. Doesn't play. Derek

Hi Andy, I wonder if you could help. I recently bought a Beocord 7000 (plus Beomaster, Beogram CD etc etc) I was over the moon getting it (auction). I took a chance at the auction (cost a wee bit), anyway when I set it up the Beogram CD didn't play, lucky for me it was just a head clean. When I got to the Beocord 7000, the head/transport did not move (I am gutted) anyway I was able to get access to the cassette unit (I am ok to a certain level of disassembly)  and can see that the "big belt" had failed. I wonder if you could help me... I have obviously got the unit out, but unsure how to go further t0 access the belts, also I do not know where to get the right belts and of suitable quality. I think I have the Bang & Olufsen Beocord 7000 Version 2 tape head (if that makes sense). I have attached photos. Any help would be appreciated or pointing me in the right direction.   Tony

This is what you need: https://www.beoparts-shop.com/product/belt-set-3/ Changing the flat belt is a bit challenging. You need to remove the steel frame. A couple of screws on the side. Although you don't have to, the easiest thing to do next is to remove the large circuit board. You need to desolder the circuit board from the tape mechanism. There are two solenoids, one on the left and the right side of the mechanism. Each have two pins. Desoldering the pins will allow the pcb to come loose. This gives you more space to access the belt. Looks like your belt has melted. Use isopropyl alcohol to remove the belt residue. Then a drop of oil on the spindles/capstans and you should be good.  

I was able to replace the flat belt without removing the PCB. I cut the old belt to make to easier to remove and pulled it out.  Then lifted the PCB very slightly to be able to squeeze the new belt under the PCB and over the top of the metal drive pulley.  To attach flat belt to the small white plastic pulley I used a wooden (disposable) coffee stirrer to stretch the belt over the pulley before snapping the metal frame in place. I am still having issues  with the deck locking up.  Motor and drive pulley all work perfectly  but when changing direction of tape the mechanism locks up .  I can hear the solenoids  click and the very quiet motor start and stop .  Planning to remove deck again to inspect.  This was a problem  before I replaced the belts so I know it wasn't something I caused during cleaning and belt replace. Any advice/ help would be appreciated.
