Beocord 7000 muffled sound

my Beocord 7000 sometimes plays ok but often has muffled sounds which can completely drown out the tape playing. Seems to be getting worse. The person who maintains my old B&O equipment has stopped doing so.  He thinks the head needs cleaning any recommended products. Thanks Paul

Tapehead cleaner, isopropyl alcohol or carburettor alcohol (same stuff) and cotton buds. NEVER acetone or paint thinner or the likes. Martin
