Hello, I'm servicing my parents' Beogram 1500 (the older model with the built-in amplifier). I have ordered a replacement drive belt from DSP because the one on this Beogram is so old it barely holds on to the platter as it rotates. With this in mind, does anyone happen to know if the idler wheel is pulled on to the speed controller spindle by the tension of the main drive belt? I have looked at the mechanism closely and can't see any springs to control this tension. I imagine as the speed selector knob is turned, the idler wheel is moved away from the speed controller spindle and it's the actual tension in the drive belt which pulls the idler wheel back on to the speed controller spindle. (There are little sections cut into the plastic speed selector assembly which do seem to move the idler wheel away from the speed controller spindle - as each stage of selection is completed the idler wheel assembly is in free air. So I guess this is where the main drive belt picks up the slack.) The new belt will prove or disprove this theory, but if anyone knows please reply with any insight you have into this cool little Beogram. (Oh and while I was at it I ordered a new set of isolating rubber bushings for my buzzy old BC9500 along with a replacement mute relay so that I might be able to enjoy sound from both left and right speakers at the same time without hitting the mute button a hundred times - here's hoping.)
