Hi Martin,  Just a quick update, I did this yesterday following your instructions to the letter and pleased and relieved to say all went well. New to Beo world forums. I just purchased a beogram 2400. It has a mmc6000 cart. I paid 125.00 for it. It has been sitting for the last 35 years. Motor runs it definitely needs new belt. I have a jewelers loop and the stylus and canter lever looks brand new. The question is  cleaning of old grease,  points to add grease and oil. I really can’t find any videos in the states that show and look for problem points. Soundsmith will not offer any help at all unless you send it to them. I’m sure with the help of the forum that I can do this no problem.  Thanks Mike.

Welcome to the forum! You really cannot evaluate the stylus with a jewelers loop and given that the cartridge is about 45 years old, even if it was in unplayed condition, the suspension would have aged to become the issue. That cartridge was never sold with that model and was a previous generation, so it may have been used when added to that turntable. As to lubrication, that would be centered around the motor bearings as to whether the infused oil has dried out. Once you get a belt, I would test with a record that you are not concerned about damaging. A good dealer may have a stereo microscope to examine the stylus wear. Test records can determine the state of the suspension and motor bearings.
