Could anyone please help me - trying to connect a B&O Beogram 5500 record player to Kanto speakers. Have attached a photo of the set up; 7 pin din to rca cable > pre-amp > speaker. Faint sound coming from record player itself so that seems to be working, but no sound out of speaker! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Emma, you have an active speaker, so you need additional Line Level Booster connected between your preamp and your speaker, see attached photo for a proven one, from Nobsound (Douk Audio).

I did try this initially, but no luck, and after some research it appeared that the 5500 doesn't have a pre-amp built in so others had bought an external one...
I have read that I might need a specific Beogram DIN to phono cable? But not sure why that would be...

Your pre-amp seems to be the same as one sold by Sounds Heavenly.
If yes, you might ask Steve's help to solve your problem.
A few questions to help your investigations:
- I noticed on your picture that the pre-amp's LED is orange, isn't it a warning (check the user guide)?
- Do your speaker work with another source plugged in the RCA inputs?
- Did you select the RCA input with the input selector of your speaker (it does not seem to automatic)?
- Looking at the YU5 user guide, this speaker has optical inputs that I don't see on your picture. Are you sure yours is a YU5?
- Is the turntable's cartridge correctly plugged on the reading arm?
