Hello, i have cd5500 that now have stopped playing cd,s. spinning and laser is seaching and then stops. Weak light from laser. any ide,s. Recap all cap,s is one ide i have read about on net some time ago.
Magnar.Norway.
You would have to replace the blue Phillips capacitor C2108 and then your 5500 are playing again, that is a common problem on most CD players.
you can buy the kit here:

It's C2103. Indeed it's the blue one to the left of the microprocessor on the above board. A very simple capacitor to change, as long as you get the right one :)

Its a axial 33µF 16V Capacitor. I just exchaned it on a Beogram CD7000:

I used a radial 33µF 25V one. It worked like a dream.
Could be that the laser reach the end. Or laser current must be corrected ( don’t do if you are not familiar, you would kill the laser from overcurrent)
Changed all elktrolytte capasitors. Got a kit from Beoparts. Problem solved. AS NEW.
Excellent, and well done. ☺️?

Any further details you can supply of the 'simple' change would be most appreciated for the non-electronic electorate amongst us, video, images would be fantastic
Thanks

Hi,
Can I check which make of capacitor you used for this fix, Panasonic, Vishay etc. Are you able to share a close up image of the actual capacitor you used?
Thank you
