Beogram RX MMC 5 cartridge maintenance

1st post from a newbie here. I've just pulled my Beogram RX turntable out of storage. The MMC 5 stylus was resting on top of a record for over a year. I think the stylus was bent up a bit from the weight. I gently nudged it down again to make contact with a record & it sounds like garbage. I have no experience with maintenance, cleaning or adjusting the weight in the back. Any insights are appreciated.   The receiver/amp has no phono input so I'm using a phono preamp - don't know if it is inducing any noise or degrading the signal.
Anyone have experience adjusting or re-installing the stylus? Would a jeweler, watch repairman, or surgeon be a capable?
