You can’t. But are you certain that the laser is toast? Very unlikely. The laser head should be near the centre – its normal parking position – and the end position switch engaged. Investigate this. Try to manually slide the laser sled towards centre (done that?, it isn’t clear) and see what happens.

Agreed! These (Sony) lasers are very long lived usually.What symptoms do you have with the unit? It should automatically drive the sled to the centre after the disc loads,so that the disc can be read.If that does'nt happen,it may be taking too long to load,which could be due to a loose/worn mechanism drive belt(common problem)Also the loading mechanism is probably slow due to dried out grease etc.The computer will block if the loading takes too long.It senses via microswitches attached to the mechanism.These become tarnished with age. When you press play, Beogram CD50 will: Move tray in. Check for presence of disc. If disc is present, lift disc to engage with motor spindle hub. Run trackingmotor to make the laser carriage reach the track 0 switch. When track 0 switch is reached, start disc motor. When disc motor is running, switch on laser and read TOC. Etc... Your deck stops at moving the carriage. It seems the carriage is all the way out - it should move all the way in. (CD's play from inner tracks out). You tell that you have taken it all apart and put back togehter. Are you sure you got the tracking motor polarity right? Martin (For reasons unknown to me no longer Dillen)

So I have tried some thing and was able to figure out why there was no spinning motor or movement of the sled. It turns out that there was a 3 prong switch not engaging so the CD player would never actually realize it was CLOSED. Hi, It sounds as if something is rubbing. The rotation should be silent. Are you certain that the disc is properly clamped?

I am not sure if it is clamped properly. That is a challenge. With the drawer closed it is not possible to see if it is clamping. It seems like it is though. But is that motor supposed to spin like that ?

The rattle is not normal. Just feel if the CD is clamped completely. When it starts turning, unplug the player and feel whether the CD has some play as regards to its platter.
