Hi, I have two Beolab 8000 MK1 (cleaned, white foam), because I really like the design. They are connected to a small streaming box (Arylic S10+) where I can switch inputs from TV to Bluetooth to Wifi. The speakers behave as they should, but not as I would like them to. I hear white noise and ticks, when I am really close. Problably also from the streamer and the grounding. Additionally the speakers turn off in quiet movie scenes. Additionally I am always afraid that they blast full volume, since the volume control is not an analogue knob. My question: Does it make sense to turn the speakers to passive speakers? Pros:
  • less wires
  • less noise, since the analogue signal from source to amp is shorter
  • no brittle PCB anymore
  • no turning automatic on and off (I like to do that manually with a power switch)
Cons:
  • can I achieve around the same sound quality?
  • need a passive crossover --> which one?
  • not original anymore
That post gave me the idea: Reddit Link I just want to hear your ideas and concerns.
