MCP5000 repair tips?

Just reaching out on the off-chance really, in case there are any known common issues with the MCP5000 that I might be able to repair myself. I bought a job lot of old B&O stuff recently and it included an MCP5000, and the condition really is excellent, like new, not a mark on it.  It would be a shame to waste it. Of course I had to go out and get 4 D batteries for it (who has those in the drawer these days!) but nothing happened - the display(s) don't come on, and the buttons don't do anything.  I'm not sure if the MCP5000 would work with my Beosound 4 anyway, but I did the phone camera test on the IR transmitter, and there does not appear to be any reaction to button presses. It's in such good cosmetic condition, it would be a shame not to have it working, but I'm not much use with a soldering iron and a multimeter (although I have both), I'm more at home repairing the mechanical parts of a turntable or tape deck than this kind of thing. So, just in case anyone has any tips, any common issues?  I have taken a look inside and it looks like new inside too.  The only test I have performed is to test the battery contacts to make sure there is no loose connection, and I'm getting 6V, so they are working fine. If anyone thinks they might be able to fix it for me, quotes are welcome!

First of happy new year to you Before you use to much time on it you should know that the MCP5000 will only work with a Beomaster 5000 as it use different IR codes than the newer Beolink 1000 compatible products. If consider getting a MCP5500 or MCP6500 instead be avare that these will only work with some 2 way IR products like BM5500/BM6500/BM7000 (and maybe a few more), but not with 1 way IR products like the BS4.

Thanks, and Happy New Yeat to you too. I don't really need it to work with my BS4, I just want it to work, as it seems a shame that such a perfect pierce of design, in such great condition, is not functioning. If I could get it working I'd probably buy a Beomaster 5000 (they do come up quite cheap sometimes) just for the hell of it!  I also have a Beogram 5000 I am trying to restore at the moment, so it would be nice to put together a small system controlled with the MCP5000. No big deal if I can't get it working though; I'll probably just end up listing it on eBay for parts.

I do not have any 2-way equipment to test it with.  I do have an MCL2A and MCL2AV, but the only thing I have to connect those to is a Beocenter 8500. Still, even without compatible equipment, I can be confident the MCP5000 isn't working, as even without compatible equipment, I'm sure the display should respond in some way when the buttons are pressed.  There's no display response at all. I have had a look inside and it is very clean - like new in fact.  No trace of leaked batteries. I'll probably have to give up on it then, shame.
