hi, I was given a beovision 9 and on getting it to turn on (believe it needs a new foil in the renote). After 5 minutes it began smoking. I took it apart to find a blown capacitor in the amplifier for the centre speaker. It’s the riga 100n 0.1uf capacitor no 289 from memory. Thinking I’m going to steal the same capacitor out of the hdr2 unit to replace it with as the recoding function is obsolete and I’ll remove that unit anyway. But does anyone know if there is a reason that capacitor might blow before I do. Tia.

Rifa caps (I guess thats the brand of them?) have a bad reputation of going bad due to aging, moisture, thermal stress etc. try to do a Google search on Rifa caps for more info regarding failure of them.
Therefor I would not recommend to replace with a used one as this might also blow anytime soon.
I was advised in another thread to be sure to get a replacement with an X2 marking which the installed one might also have.
And lastly use gloves when you handle the burnt one. The residu will smell for a long period, so avoid getting it on your fingers

Thanks. Yes the smell sucks. I have been advised to replace it with a non rifa foil cap equivalent 100n x2. But without suggesting which one to use, I dont suppose you know of one? T.i.a
I presume the capacitors can affect audio quality. An equivalent may not create the same sound. I have no idea. I think I will just steal the one out of the hdr2 unit for now. I couldn’t seem to get that unit to power up anyway. Likely not had half as much use over its life.
