Ok, the BC 2 sits on the motorised stand turntable under the tv, the tv is the master and the BC 2 the slave in the ML setup. Looked at the BC 2 menu, and there is nothing listed or activated, just a reference to use the TV for timer setup. The tv does not have a numeric system mounted, I use 2 x digital boxes, 1 for terrestrial french tv and the other for satellite english freesat tv, both these do not have anything programmed. I am at a complete loss! I will give it another go tonight, and maybe reboot the tv and the BC 2 tomorrow, but I don't think that should have any effect on the system.

Some times the Beo4 can act strange. If it happens again, try to take the remote away from the room. MM

Ah could be, the control has been playing up recently, replaced batteries, sort of ok, stripped it down this morning and gave it a spray with switch and contact cleaner, it seems to be working ok now but maybe tomorrow when the solvent carrier has vapourised will tell me more!
