Hi,   I'm attempting to make my own powerlink cables which use RJ45 connectors- but am puzzled about the cable to use. I saw that B&O have a part number 6250031, but not sure whether this is correct - or available.

Part number 6250031 is a 5m cable with a DIN plug on each end. I f you need 8 pin DIN to RJ45 you probably want this: (click for larger image) Login to view image EDIT:  The type of PL cable that you need will depend on what equipment you are connecting.  The above diagram is taken from the Beolink Handbook v1.9.  If you let me know exactly what you are connecting and I will post the details.

Ah, so the part number is wrong. basically, I’m just trying to find out what cable is used - in the diagrams I’ve seen for straight rj45 to rj45 powerlink, it looks like standard Ethernet cable (but probably cat6 or higher.

Great minds. Im currently working through this and making my own custom cables for the Theatre Height Surrounds. Ive opted for CAT7 /Class F which is the B&O standard. This is some background reading.

You have to use SHIELDED cables or it will get lots of interference. Honestly I wouldn't put yourself through the trouble. I got dirt cheap Shielded cat 7 cables on amazon and they work perfectly.

That’s what STP means. Cat 7 looks a lot like ML cable with less strands.

Hi, I made a cable for Beovision 11 and Beolab 3 today using the below diagram. I did it slightly different, but it seems to work without any issues. However, I would like to understand the consequences of the change I made.   DIN PIN 2 (signal ground) > RJ45 PIN 3 (signal ground) & RJ45 PIN 7 (signal ground) DIN PIN 2 (signal ground) > DIN PIN 7 (data ground) DIN PIN 3 (audio L) > RJ45 PIN 8 DIN PIN 5 (audio R) > RJ45 PIN 6   I did not solder the RJ45 shield to DIN PIN 7 Instead I shorted DIN PIN 2 and DIN PIN 7 Reason... simply because I could not solder the material/wire of the RJ45 cable. The solder would not stick.   Any feedback on this approach - explaining the consequences. Thanks.     Login to view image

Hi Ravsted, Not sure about the shorting, it does not sound logical tbh, as in all pinouts they are kept separate. FYI I went the other way: I did cut a few DIN-DIN PL cables in two, and crimped RJ45s to the cut ends. Finicky but I hate soldering! Regards, Johan
