I have a 2002. My tape deck runs fine, I just put new belts on but there is little to no sound coming out. I have to turn it right up to hear it, I was thinking it’s the heads?
any advice greatly appreciated

Heads defect?
99%= NO
Caps defect, quite normal.
Electrolyth and tantalum caps fail after this long time, that's quite normal.
Bad tantals around the Dolby IC. I've seen that a couple of times.

Spam removed
The head is probably intact. Only Bogen heads on open reel Beocords and Uhers pose problems.
Do check capacitors around the Dolby circuit.
